Artificial Intelligence in Sri Lanka: Careers, Curriculum & Future Outlook

📘 Overview

The BSc (Hons) in Artificial Intelligence is Sri Lanka's first dedicated AI degree, offered by the Faculty of Information Technology at the University of Moratuwa through its Department of Computational Mathematics. It builds both the theory and the hands-on engineering skills behind modern AI — from core mathematics and programming to machine learning, deep learning and real-world intelligent systems. It suits strongly numerate, logical students who want to be at the frontier of technology.

It earns a top-tier future-proof score because AI is among the fastest-growing, highest-demand and most automation-resilient fields globally — AI graduates build the very technologies reshaping other jobs, and the skills travel well into high-paying local and remote roles.

📚 What You'll Study

The honours curriculum spans the mathematical foundations, software skills and applied techniques of AI:

• Programming and software engineering
• Mathematics for AI (linear algebra, calculus, probability and statistics)
• Machine learning and deep learning
• Neural networks and their architectures
• Natural language processing and computer vision
• Data science, big data and data engineering
• Knowledge representation, reasoning and intelligent systems
• AI ethics, law and society, plus a capstone research project

⏳ Duration
