1. Who we are
findmydegree.lk (“we”, “us”, “our”) is an unofficial tool
that helps Sri Lankan A/L students find government university degree programmes they may be eligible for.
The site is operated by Tharaka Dissanayake and is not affiliated with the University Grants Commission (UGC)
or any Sri Lankan government body.

2. What data we collect
We collect the minimum data necessary to operate the service:
- Session data — your A/L subject choices, grades, district and z-score are stored
temporarily in a server-side session (expires after 1 hour) so the multi-step form works across page loads.
We do not store this search data permanently.
- Feedback form submissions — if you submit a message via our Feedback page, we store
your name (optional), email address (optional), message text, the time of submission, your IP address
and browser user-agent string. This information is used solely to read and respond to your message.
- Analytics data — if you accept cookies, Google Analytics (GA4) collects anonymised
usage information such as pages visited, session duration, browser type, and approximate location.
We use this to understand how the site is used and improve it. See

- Advertising data — if you accept cookies, Google AdSense may serve personalised
advertisements and use cookies to tailor ads to your interests. See

3. Cookies
We use the following categories of cookies:
- Strictly necessary — a session cookie (Django session) is required for the multi-step
degree finder to work. It contains no personally identifiable information and expires when you close your
browser or after one hour of inactivity. You cannot opt out of this cookie and still use the tool.
- Analytics (optional) — Google Analytics 4 sets cookies (e.g.
_ga,
_ga_*) to distinguish users and sessions. These are only set if you accept cookies via
our consent banner.
- Advertising (optional) — Google AdSense sets cookies to serve and measure ads.
These are only set if you accept cookies via our consent banner.
You can withdraw or change your cookie preference at any time by clearing your browser’s local
storage for findmydegree.lk, or by using your browser’s built-in cookie controls.
4. How we use your data
- To provide the degree-eligibility search service (session data).
- To read and respond to feedback messages.
- To understand how the site is used and make improvements (analytics, with consent).
- To display advertisements that help fund the free service (AdSense, with consent).
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third parties except Google (Analytics and
AdSense, described above) and only when you have given consent.
5. Data retention
- Session data — deleted automatically after one hour.
- Feedback submissions — retained for as long as necessary to address your message,
after which they may be anonymised or deleted.
- Analytics data — retained according to Google Analytics’ default retention
settings (26 months).
6. Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Request correction or deletion of your personal data.
- Withdraw consent for analytics and advertising cookies at any time.
- Object to or restrict certain processing of your data.

7. Third-party links
Our site may link to external websites (e.g. official UGC pages, university sites). We are not responsible
for the privacy practices of those sites and encourage you to review their policies.
8. Children’s privacy
Our service is intended for Sri Lankan A/L students (typically aged 17 and above). We do not knowingly
collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted personal data to us,
please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of
this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes
acceptance of the revised policy.
