The three subjects at the G.C.E. (Advanced Level) Examination, students must obtain at least two Simple (S) passes in any two subjects and at least a Credit (C) pass for the subject the student wishes to follow. This requirement is mandatory. For example, a student wishing to follow Music must have a Credit (C) pass or more in Music in the G.C.E. (Advanced Level) Examination. Similarly, a student wishing to follow a course of study in Arts & Design must have obtained a Credit (C) pass or more for Art at the G.C.E. (Advanced Level) Examination.

Ramanathan Academy of Fine Arts of the University of Jaffna also conducts Practical/Aptitude Tests for selection. These are for Music, Dance and Art & Design. If a student fails the Practical/Aptitude Test, he/she is deemed ineligible for admission for the relevant course of study. However, such student is eligible to be considered for other courses of study of his/ her preference mentioned in the application form, subject to satisfy the relevant requirements.

Ramanathan Academy of Fine Arts of the University of Jaffna will publish a press notice, calling for applications for the Practical / Aptitude Test. Students are requested to contact the Senior Assistant Registrar of the Ramanathan Academy for further details.

The medium of instructions for all degree programmes conducted by the Ramanathan Academy of Fine Arts is Tamil.
