Design in Sri Lanka: Careers, Curriculum & Future Outlook

📘 Overview

The Honours Degree of Bachelor of Design (BDes) at the University of Moratuwa is a professional design education that blends creativity with industry-focused technical skills. After a common foundation, students specialise in Fashion & Lifestyle Design, Media & Communication Design, or Product Design. Open to applicants from any A/L stream (with an aptitude test), it suits visually creative, hands-on students aiming for careers in design-driven industries — including Sri Lanka's large apparel sector.

It earns a strong future-proof score because design skills — especially product, fashion/textile and UX/communication design — are in solid demand locally and globally; design thinking remains valuable even as routine graphic tasks are increasingly automated.
