Social Work in Sri Lanka: Careers, Curriculum & Future Outlook

📘 Overview

Social Work is a professional degree dedicated to helping people — supporting individuals, families and communities through hardship, and connecting them with care and resources. Offered in English by the Universities of Peradeniya and Sri Jayewardenepura, it combines social science with practical, supervised fieldwork. It suits empathetic, resilient and socially committed students who want a meaningful career improving people's lives and strengthening communities.

It earns a future-proof score of 7.5 because demand for social workers is growing with rising awareness of mental health, child protection and social welfare, and the deeply human, relational nature of the work makes it highly resistant to automation.
