The University of Sri Jayewardenepura (often called USJ or “Japura”) is one of the most prominent public universities in Sri Lanka. It is located in Nugegoda, near Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte, the administrative capital of the country.
The university was officially established in 1959, but its origins date back to 1873, when it began as a Buddhist educational institute called Vidyodaya Pirivena.
